If you might be tempted to take a stroll down to the beach, or around the parks and gardens, please be sun smart and wear a hat, a top with long sleeves, and SPF 50+ sunscreen. The daytime UV index is 11 (Extreme), and sun protection is recommended between 9:20am and 5:30pm.

Last call for workshop registration!
Registrations for workshops will close no later than 5pm, Monday the 2nd of February. Registrations for individual workshops may close earlier, as both catering and room/venue occupancy numbers are now set.

Changes to the workshop program
Several workshops that were intended to run at AMAS XVII will not be offered due to insufficient registrations, including in situ characterisation, large area mapping, and the synchrotron introduction and beamline workshops. Registrants for those workshops have already been, or will shortly be, contacted to arrange refunds or confirm attendance at alternative workshops. We sincerely thank the workshop coordinators and speakers for all their hard work in preparing for these workshops.

Catering for late registrations
The catering menus for AMAS 2026 are now being finalised and ordered based on the dietary requirements that have been provided by registrants. Although registration remains open to the symposium and workshops (for a limited time, and with limited spaces), we will not be able to vary menus to accommodate additional dietary requirements of attendees who register from now on.
If you have specific dietary requirements and have not yet registered, but intend to, please contact committee@amas-symposium.org.au to discuss options.

Registration extended for workshops at the Australian Synchrotron!
The deadline for registration for the Synchrotron Introduction and Synchrontron Beamline (MEX1 and XFM) workshops have been extended to January the 26th!
Attendees are still strongly encouraged to book ASAP, as places are limited.

Accommodation
The Pullman Albert Park Hotel is booked out Monday the 9th of February. If you are staying in Melbourne on the night after the first day of workshops, you will need to find other accommodation near Albert Park.
There are many hotels in a short walk or tram ride from the symposium venue at 65 Queens Road, Melbourne, Victoria, either in Albert Park or the surrounding suburbs of St. Kilda, Prahran, Windsor, South Yarra, South Melbourne, Southbank, and Melbourne itself.
The nearest hotels include:
- View Melbourne, also on St. Kilda Road.
- College Lawn Hotel, on Greville St. Prahran.
If commuting to/from the venue from elsewhere in Melbourne, please consult the directions for public transport access to Pullman Albert Park, and/or the PTV Journey Planner.

Childcare at AMAS
AMAS has arranged with Abracadabra Childcare Services Pty. Ltd. ('ACS') to facilitate private nanny/babysitting service for delegates who will be attending AMAS 2026 from Monday 9th to Friday 13th February 2026. For further details, please refer to the Chilcare at AMAS page, or contact the committee directly at committee@amas-symposium.org.au.
If you intend to use the childcare nanny/babysitting service during AMAS, and would be interested in using an on-site creche if available, please contact the AMAS committee at your earliest convenience to register your interest.

Call for Papers
On behalf of the AMAS Executive Committee, we would like to invite you to submit an abstract for a presentation at our seventeenth biennial symposium to be held in Melbourne from the 11th – 13th of February 2026. We encourage you to come along and present recent work using microscopy and microanalytical techniques. Themes for special sessions in this symposium include:
- Cultural heritage
- Soft x-ray analysis and light element analysis
- Synchrotron microanalysis
- Laser ablation techniques
- Advanced microanalysis techniques in industrial, geological or materials problems.
Abstract on other microanalysis topics will also be warmly welcomed.
Abstracts can be up to 2 pages in length, with instructions for authors available on our website. Abstracts are due by the 20th of December 2025.
Meeting registrations are now open, with early bird rates available until Friday 28th of November, 2025. We also have eight travel bursaries available for students, early career researchers, and technical staff. See our website for eligibility details.
The meeting is being held at the Pullman Albert Park Hotel. Our website has a link to get 10% off the best flexible rate for accommodation at the hotel.

Bursaries at AMAS
Bursaries to support attendance to the 17th Symposium of the Australian Microbeam Analysis Society (AMAS) are available due to the generous support from the Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Society (AMMS) and AMAS.
Up to eight bursaries will be awarded. Each will include complimentary registration to the meeting, and non-Melbourne based delegates will receive an additional AU$500 towards travel and/or accommodation expenses.
These bursaries are open to research higher degree students, early career researchers (within five years of award of PhD) and technical staff from microanalysis facilities with less than ten years of experience.

EPMA Masterclass

Running all day on Monday, February the 9th, at CSIRO Mineral Resources in Clayton, this masterclass will cover advanced techniques and applications in EPMA microanalysis, mapping, and spectroscopy, including cryogenic EPMA.
