Advanced EPMA Workshop
Workshop description
This half day workshop will focus upon the theory and practice of advanced electron probe microanalysis techniques, covering key topics like CL, trace element analysis, and peak overlap corrections for Rare Earth microanalysis. It will provide a review of advanced techniques for more experienced users. The emphasis will be on analysis of inorganic polished samples, with discussion to include thin films, and other materials as they are brought up by the attendees.
Topics will include:
- Different stages available in the EPMA
- Rare earth element analysis
- Selection and sourcing of microanalysis standards
- Multi-voltage analysis
- Mass absorption coefficient tables
- Trace element mapping
- Compositional mapping and cluster analysis
- EDS peak extraction
- CL mapping and quantitative calibration by EPMA or LA-ICPMS
- Cryo-microanalysis
Audience
Beginners to experts that are doing electron-probe microanalysis using wavelength-dispersive and energy-dispersive spectrometry and want to become familiar with advanced microanalysis practices.
